Grill and air fry temperatures can reach as high as 300℃, but to prevent overheating, high temperatures cycle up and down somewhat.
Convection is integrated meaning there is no setting to select or adjust it. Some oven features will use the single fan setting, while other settings for air fry or pizza will automatically use a dual fan setting.
The steam function can be used manually with the microwave, the oven, and for fermentation. For this, you insert the steam tray or tank just below the oven door. Basic steaming and superheated steaming is possible.
The oven has an extensive range of bread and sweet presets, including three fast bake options. Toasting is only one side at a time, but you can also do steam toasting.
Toshiba ER-SD3000 User Pros & Cons
Toshiba ER-SD3000 - User Pros & Cons | |
Things people like | Things people don't like |
Excellent baking results. | Microwave warming not so tops. |
Air fry crisp and juicy. | User interface, especially small buttons. |
Proofing very useful. | Noisy fan cooling. |
Toshiba product lifespan questionable. |
People are overwhelmingly pleased with baking and air frying results – particularly pizza and teriyaki chicken. However, microwave heating, especially frozen foods, often falls below par.
The steam function is quite versatile even though steam presets are not so many. You can do both superheated and non-superheated steaming. Time on the fermentation function is limited to 90 minutes, so this may be a key factor for some.
The user interface is often critiqued as unergonomic. There is a learning curve here, but our English user guide down below will set you right.
Helpful Verdict: If a 2-tier baking oven and air-fryer is what you’re after, this Toshiba has a lot to offer. It’s one of the best choices for a baking oven for presets as well and heating capabilities. The compromise seems to be on the microwave, so it’s not such a well-rounded product for the price. Since Toshiba quality is not as good as it once was, it might be a good idea to purchase an extended warranty.
Toshiba ER-SD3000 Kiln Dome Superheated Steam Oven English User Guide
At first glance, the Toshiba ER-SD3000 kiln dome oven looks pretty daunting with its 48 set-menu interface. Most of these you may probably never use, and you can use manual settings for both the oven and the microwave.
Basic User Tips for Getting Started
The key user feature of the Toshiba ER-SD3000 kiln dome oven is its dial press knob.
The first step to getting started is to select your cooking program. You can do with with the dial or the short cut menu buttons on the left side panel.
You have to use the dial to select the first three fast access programs. By repeatedly pressing the buttons you can cycle through their options. Defrosting, for example, has three options to choose from.
For quick microwave presets, once you select a program, you just push the dial knob to start cooking. Within the first 15 seconds, you can usually adjust the doneness levels using the dial.
For other programs, once you select an option, you scroll the dial for the temperature and select by pressing start. Next the time options will appear and you do the same.
You can usually extend the time during the cook cycle by turning the dial to add anything from 1 to 30 minutes.
For microwave cooking options, you cannot use the baking tray. The display panel, however, will let you know what cooking functions you are using, or you can consult the manual.
These are [ヒーター] or infrared, [レンジ] or microwave, and [スチーム] or steam. For [レンジ], you cannot insert the baking trays, but you can use microwave friendly containers or silicone bakeware. Hybrid functions often include [スチーム] for which you should have the water dish filled and inserted.
Understanding the Toshiba ER-SD3000 Kiln Dome Oven User-Interface
One critique of the Toshiba ER-SD3000 is that the oven doesn’t really have handy one-touch features — even for microwave cooking times — so there’s a fair but of button pushing and dial scrolling. This also makes the microwave difficult for children or the elderly to use.
Dial: [ 1. ごはん・2. おかず・3. 二品 ]
There are three fast menus, however, accessible through the dial. The first three dial functions are rice, side dishes, and 2-dish simultaneous reheating. Once you have started the cooking cycle, and within 15 seconds, you can use the dial to select the doneness level (basically adjusting the time).

5. フライ・Fried Food | 8. ハンバーグ・Hamburger |
6. お手軽フライ・Cutlets | 9. ピーマンの肉詰め・Stuffed peppers |
The first thing to note is that this oven highlights air fry (non-fry) with menus 4 to 6 and hybrid cooking options for menus 7 to 9. These are all oven functions, but hybrid all use steam and some the grill function, so make sure the water tray is filled.
Menus 6 to 9 require preheating before you insert the tray. Menu 6 takes 10 min and the others 20 min. After pressing start, you can adjust the doneness level with the dial (within 15 secs) and during cooking you can also extend the time.

Classic heating functions are menus 10 through 20 and most use the microwave. On the panel there are fast access buttons for milk [牛乳], boiled vegetables [ゆで野菜], and the three defrost functions [3つの解凍].
Crispy reheating [17. カラッとあたため] can be used for kara-age, tempura, fried foods, and baguettes. It uses steam and oven heating so you can insert the baking tray.
[18. ふくっらパン] is for heating savory breads and butter rolls. It uses the heater and microwave so you cannot insert the baking tray.Steam reheating [16. スチームあたため] is a great for reheating foods that need to retain moisture. [19. 中華まん蒸し・Chinese bun] also uses the steam microwave function.
There is no menu for heating frozen dinners [市販冷凍食品], so you should read the package instructions and reheat using the manual microwave function.

A key feature for Toshiba kiln dome oven is 2-tier baking and the extensive bread and sweet menus (28 to 45).
The tegaru [手軽] menus 28-29-30 use the microwave for fast proofing and then the oven for baking. Everything can be done within an hour. You cannot insert the baking tray nor use metal baking tins etc. You can use oven proof glass or silicone. Make sure you understand the instructions clearly when using this function.
The extensive recipe book (in Japanese) has a recipe for each bread menus. Alternatively, you can always choose your own manual settings.
ノンフライ ハイブリッド | 牛乳 | ゆで野菜 | 3つの |
Air Fry Hybrid | Milk | Boiled Veggies | 3xDefrost |
車内灯 ON/Off | レンジ お好み温度 | オーブン | スチーム |
Oven Light | Microwave | Oven Ferment Grill | Steam |
While you can use the dial to quickly flip through the menus, on the left side panel you’ll see 6 quick access buttons, and these are not really one-touch functions either.
By pressing any one of these buttons, you can cycled through the menu options. Milk, for one, has options for heating one to four cups. After pressing start, you can often use the dial to select up to 3 doneness or [仕上がり] levels, but only within the first 15 sec of cooking.
How to do steam cooking
By pressing the [スチーム 過熱水蒸気] you can scroll through the steam cooking options. The fist is microwave steam cooking [スチームレンジ], superheated steam cooking with preheating [過熱水蒸気予熱あり], without preheating [~予熱なし], and then (non-superheated) steaming [蒸し] cooking.
After the function you select displays, you then use the dial to select the time, and then press the dial to start cooking.
For superheated steam preheating, the oven will beep 5 times after heating to alert you to insert the tray. Then, you set the time and press start. For no preheating, the first turn of the dial will select the temperature, then you press start, and then the time selection will appear.
At any time, you can use the dial to extend the cooking time. If steam runs out during cooking, the oven will beep and a light [給水] will flash.
Oven, Fermentation, and Grill settings
By pressing the [オーブン・発酵・グリル] button you can cycle through the oven functions. Manual setting is very easy. Once you select a function, you use the dial to select the temperature, press start, and then do the same for the time settings.
The grill only has one setting, so you only set the time. For preheating, it takes about 20 min to reach 240℃. Once the oven beeps, you insert the tray and set the timer.
During cooking, you can add up to 30 min in 1 min increments using the dial. You cannot adjust the temperature without resetting the entire course.
Fermentation on the Toshiba kiln dome oven is only for 90 min, however, just before the end of the cycle you can extend the fermentation time up to the 90 min mark.
